About

Since Columbine High School (CHS) opened in 1973, the school has established strong traditions and a culture of Rebel Pride. This pride is rooted in the fact that we are a close-knit family and community of learners.

Columbine is committed to high standards of learning for all students, valuing each and every member of our school community. We expect personal and collective responsibility and promote high levels of engagement and performance in learning, which results in future life success.

Columbine High School is an inclusive family of students, teachers, staff and parents. As a Rebel community, we stretch for excellence in our thoughts, words and actions. Working toward our shared vision,

We commit to:

  • Establishing high academic expectations through high graduation rates, low and decreasing remediation and dropout rates, and success on AP, SAT, ACT, and similar tests.
  • Teaching students the skills they need for success beyond high school. We will promote college and career readiness through an offering of relevant and rigorous learning experiences.
  • Nurturing our students in capacities that help them to be confident, compassionate, gracious, and productive citizens.
  • Creating timely interventions that target student needs and utilize a diversity of resources.

We value:

  • Inclusion and acceptance of all students and staff, recognizing every Rebel matters
  • The contribution of our Rebel staff in maintaining a clean, safe, healthy, and friendly educational atmosphere.
  • Creativity and risk-taking on the part of all members of the community
  • Diverse and engaging learning environments.
  • Keeping up-to-date with instructional resources and technology, and exploring ways to update and modernize our facility to foster a 21st century learning environment.

We expect:

  • Personal and collective responsibility and accountability for all members of the Rebel family.
  • Inquiry as an essential component to learning.
  • All students to engage in higher-level thinking, problem-solving and collaboration
  • Timely and meaningful communication between all members of the Rebel community.

We trust:

  • That consistent enforcement of school policies and procedures, founded in a culture of respect, provide an environment where students and staff can thrive.
  • In the quality and professional expertise of our faculty who therefore are given the freedom to innovate, experiment and take risks with new teaching strategies that meet the needs of all students
  • That empathetic relationships between teachers and students foster growth.
  • That the teacher evaluation process at Columbine will support professional growth by fostering cooperation, feedback and positive reinforcement.

We promote:

  • Multiple paths for success, understanding the need for a wide variety of curricular and extra-curricular programs.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to allow teachers the time for collaboration, conferring, reflection, feedback and planning.
  • Our Rebel faculty advance their craft of teaching by participating in ongoing professional development and working closely with colleagues.
  • Partnerships and communication with our feeder schools, parents, and community at large.

We are proud to call ourselves Rebels, dedicated to this shared vision.
