Bio
Born and raised in Littleton, graduated from Columbine in 2008 and came right back in 2013 where I started as a half-time graphic design teacher and worked in the counseling office. The following year I landed the full-time gig teaching photography and graphic design. A few years later, I took over yearbook. I have advised for 7 books and have had multiple students win photography shows across the state, nation, and world even.
When I am not teaching I am one of two places; coaching gymnastics or out on photoshoots. I have coached gymnastics since 2008 and really am not complete without it. As for photography, I love capturing sports, but more importantly families.
Now in my little free time, I love going on adventures with my husband and our giant fur baby, Vega the Great Dane. Hiking, camping, snowboarding, scuba diving, really just about anything as long as it's an adventure I'm in.
Why Columbine?
As an alumni coming back to Columbine was always my plan because there is just something about Columbine that I cannot describe. In Mr. Christy's words we just have "it". That it really in the support I needed when I needed it the most. Columbine is not like any other school, the culture is different and as a teacher it really allows you to teach how you want to teach. Our students are the reason I wanted to come back. They leave such an impression on you as a teacher that no other school can compare.
What I Love About What I Teach
Photography was something I always enjoyed and had a passion for. I struggled in school until I had a creative outlet that pushed me and I could succeed. That's why I wanted to become a photography teacher. I think it is so important to have a class that challenges you creatively and allows you to learn a skill that can translate to a job real quick. I will forever be excited about photography, but the moment a student sees the magic in it is when I know they will also have a passion for life.

Bio
I am a native of Colorado, and a product of Colorado schools attending Golden High School and Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University), where I received a BA in Graphic Design. I was also a 4-year letterman at wide receiver, and team captain for the Mesa State Mavericks football team. After college I played minor league football (arena and semi-pro), was the varsity receivers coach at Ralston Valley High School and worked as the lead graphic artist at FASTSIGNS of Arvada. During that time I also attended the Metro State College teacher licensure program and became a licensed art, CTE, physical education, and science teacher. Before joining the Columbine community, I was a teacher and coach at the Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy for 14 years. In 2012 I received the inaugural ‘DPS Teacher Exemplary Concept Integration Award’ for my students' work and my art teaching concepts. During my time at KCAA I coached softball, flag-football, basketball, and baseball. I now coach youth tackle football for the South Jeffco Coyotes, baseball for Ken Caryl Little League and have led sport and speed youth camps at Columbine. I'm married to Kelli Preston and we have a 10-year-old son named Will, and an 8-year-old daughter named Maddox. Will loves Godzilla and sports and Mad is passionate about dance and art.
Why Columbine?
Every school out there talks about building community and a safe, caring environment - Columbine LIVES IT. This community has made me feel like family, even though I am new, and I want to pay that forward to future Rebels.
What I Love About What I Teach
All my courses give students the opportunity to tap into their right brain (creative center) and develop soft skills that will help them be better young professionals in any field.
