Advanced Placement (AP)
Advanced Placement(AP) in Jeffco
Advanced Placement (AP) courses give Jeffco students another way to earn college credit. At the end of an AP course, students must pass a standardized national test to qualify for college credit. Qualifying grades on AP exams may earn three to six credits for a single course, to up to three years of college standing. AP results are widely accepted for credit at most U.S. universities (approximately 3,800) and at approximately 640 international schools in 46 countries.
Students may earn college credit for scoring a three or higher on the AP exams. The credit is guaranteed to transfer, but it’s not guaranteed to apply to degree requirements. Please contact the colleges you wish to attend to see how your AP scores will be accepted.
Advanced Placement at Columbine High School
Advanced Placement courses are college-level courses taught in high school. They are the best preparation for a successful college career. AP coursework is intellectually challenging, pushes students to think and learn – and is completely worth it.
Columbine is also proud to be just one of three schools in Jeffco and one of 35 in the entire state to offer the AP Capstone Diploma Program. See below for more information.
AP Capstone Diploma Program
Columbine is proud and excited to expand our academic offerings, especially for students searching for higher-level coursework.
CHS is part of a select group of high schools nationally to offer the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma Program. Columbine was the first such school in Jeffco and is now one of just three and the only school in the south area. CHS is one of only 35 schools statewide to offer AP Capstone.
Students can begin working on the AP Capstone Diploma right away as a freshman; however, many choose to pursue AP courses starting their sophomore or junior year.
This program is built on the foundation of Columbine’s variety of AP courses while adding two additional AP courses – AP Seminar and AP Research. The program is designed to complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline-specific study experienced in other AP courses. Students earning an AP Capstone Diploma will be able to earn college course credit, college admission distinction, and valuable college and workforce readiness skills.
AP Capstone is an innovative program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges.
From state schools in Colorado to Ivy League universities, hundreds of institutions have confirmed their support for AP Capstone by endorsing its rigorous interdisciplinary approach or by granting credit for a qualifying score in AP Seminar, AP Research, or both.
Students at Columbine who complete the AP Capstone program could have their freshman year of college completed before they graduate from high school.
